FAX not working | Printer/Copier/FAX
Summary
This will only apply to Printers that have Faxing capability. This will not apply to eFAX. Because all the hospitals are built without phone lines, networking cables are used instead. Faxes work through the internet using a converter box as seen in the picture below. The box emulates a phone line. If you found yourself in a situating when faxing is not working, you can try a few things. Most hospitals will have three fax copiers. One at each Nurse Station and the Administration area. You can tell if it has faxing capability by looking at the phone number label on the copier.
Instructions
The picture below shows the converter box made by Polycom. It's the same 8x8 phone system used in the hospital. Please note the box has a power cable, network cable, and phone line. As yo can see, the network cable from the wall is plugged into the Polycom box. This is where the magic starts. It converts network signals into phone signals. The box is emulating (converting) newer technology into old technology (phone signals.) The phone line plugs directly into the Printer/Copier. Please note that the printer still needs its own network cable as seen in the pictures. Picture one shows the wall jack having two network cables. Picture two shows the network cable plugged into the printer.

If you're experiencing faxes that aren't coming or going, then it's most likely the Polycom box. These boxes are up and running 24/7, and sometimes it gets stuck. Things to try:
1. Remove the power from the Polycom box. Give it about 10 seconds then plug it back in. This should fix the issue.
2. If step one doesn't work, check your network cables. Ensure it's snug. You'll note on the Polycom box that there are three green lights. If all three aren't green, then there is a problem. You'll see the telephone icon on the box. That should be green to indicate that it's receiving signals.
3. If all the cables appear secure, then it could be the network. If your hospital is experiencing networking issues, it's going to affect faxing. Again, you can tell by looking at the green lights on the box.
4. It's possible the phone line is plugged into the wrong jack. Some printers will have two jacks on the back. Try switching phone jacks. Cleaning crews will sometimes unplug things and forget to put it back in the right spot.
5. It could be the printer itself. You could try using the power button on the printer to shut it down, but this doesn't always completely shut it down. If this method doesn't work, unplug the copier for a minute.
NOTE: The network cable from the Polycom does not plug into the printer. You'll see two network cables coming out of the ports. One is for the Polycom and the other is for the printer.
